The Letters to MAGA Project (TLTMP) vision is part group therapy and part historical record. The MAGA movement began in 2015, and the damaging impact of the movement on the United States and the entire world has increased dramatically since January 2025. In the United States in particular, we made the mistake of never really processing, let alone litigating the horrific events of January 6, 2021. That lack of honesty, and of doing the hard work of addressing that horror, is undeniably a huge contributor to the state of the country today. Our democracy has crumbled, and many of us are exhausted and filled with rage but also struggle with feelings of hopelessness and helplessness.
At the time of this launch of TLTMP, the future of democracy in the United States is undeniably uncertain. This project is intended to provide a way to connect and take care of ourselves, while we continue the fight for democracy. Expressing our feelings and thoughts in whatever way feels best for us, can help us stay strong.
TLTMP believes that the impact of MAGA on the nation, our psyche, and the world, will be long-lasting. We must document the harms of this movement for posterity. We must remember this history that we are living through, so that we never allow a huge proportion of our populace to fall for another corrupt, rotten movement that could be even worse than MAGA.
We invite everyone, no matter where you live in the world, to contribute to this project. If letters are received in a language other than English, we will publish the non-English version, along with a version translated by basic translation services. We invite people who are never MAGA and former MAGA but clearly, we do not accept letters from current MAGA supporters. You are the recipients of these letters, should you be courageous enough to read them. Also, please feel free to submit as many letters as you would like. TLMTP will try our best to review and post the letters, as they are submitted.
